Battle Modifiers

At the start of each match, you’ll notice a modifier that appears alongside the selected World. Most Worlds have more than one type of modifier associated, and the choice is random.

For example, Royal World has chance of Golden Boots, supercharged versions of Turbo Boots. Less helpful are the Angry Vines of Beach World, which grow around the edges of the map, limiting space to move around. You adapt the Squad to suit the Mod, such as those who can capitalise on Green World’s Gem Overload by busting monsters.

SQUAD BUSTIN’ WITH SCG

Playing Squad can sometimes make you feel like you woke up inside a pinball machine. The same could be said about reading this magazine. But anyway, it seemed like a great idea to highlight some cool things from the game so you can get good and brag about it. You may know all this stuff already—and more—in which case brag about that instead.

Movement and Turbo

This game is all about decisions, and this includes movement speed and direction, in or out of danger. Your Squad attacks and moves simultaneously, picking the right battles depending on health and strength. Sometimes it pays to stand still and pile on damage, increasing attack speed though left vulnerable and surrounded. You also need to make wise use of Turbo, which boosts movement speed but disables attacks when activated.

Abilities

Squaddies have Powers that unlock at Classic Evolution, which are upgraded at Ultra. Remember that Heroes can take two Powers from any Squaddies to use in Battle. We already have favourites! ‘Elbow Drop’ causes a lot of upset, since it is both damaging and scatters crowds. ‘Invisibility’ aids hasty escapes and allows for surprise attacks. ‘Bee Frenzy’ is absolutely devastating right now, serving almost as a deadly shield. If you’re playing a lot of Duos, take a ‘Mega Heal Station’ with you to support the team.

Quests

Quests and the Hero Journey

Heroes become stronger by spending Hero Points on upgrades, building Power, Trait and Turbo capabilities. Hero Points are earned by completing Quests—gameplay challenges with a variety of fun objectives. Six new Quests are given each day, with a Daily Reward for completing all six. You can attempt one at a time or spread progress across them all, just remember that all Quest progress starts over with the Squad Busters Weekly Reset. If you don’t much like the look of a Quest, you can reroll once every 24 hours for free.
